National Wafel Day 2010 - Tuesday August 24

As you well know, we here at the Belgian Ministry of Culinary Affairs, Department of Wafels, like to celebrate national waffle days everywhere in the world. We don't really have a waffle day in Belgium, because in Belgium every day is National Wafel Day. Ah oui! However, in the USA, it's this coming Tuesday, August 24!



This year, Wafels & Dinges is going all out! Here's the fun dinges we've planned for Tuesday:

FREE WAFEL in exchange for a children's drawing of waffles or of the Wafels & Dinges truck. Open to children of all ages. We'll hang your picture on the truck and you get the free wafel! 

• When: all day. 
• AM: from 8am till 4:30pm on 52nd Street btw 3rd & Lex
• PM: from 6pm - 10pm at the Gantry State Park in Long Island City (48th Ave & Center Boulevard)

BIG WAFFLE RAFFLE: If your drawing talents are not that great, and you'd rather just buy a waffle, you get a raffle ticket that can win you 24 awesome prizes. First prize is a catering event with one of our new carts for 50 guests (anywhere in Manhattan). Second prize is Wafels & Dinges do-it-yourself party kit that can serve up to 50 guests. Other prizes are gift certificates, Wafels & Dinges t-shirts, Spekuloos Jars, Kompleet Wafel Kits and all kinds of vintage Wafels & Dinges items.

• When: raffle tickets are given from 8am till  2pmm
• Drawing of the first and second prize at  2:15pm by Miss Wafel 2010 and Mister Wafel 2010
• On 52nd Street btw 3rd & Lex
• All other prizes will be announced on this blog on 08/25 and can be picked up at the truck

MISS WAFEL 2010 & MISTER WAFEL 2010 win ONE YEAR OF FREE WAFFLES

The Miss Wafel and Mister Wafel contestants will be judged on four criteria

1. Presentations expressing why they should be named Miss Wafel or Mister Wafel
2. Trivia contest about wafels and the country of Belgium
3. Explanation of  “What I Like to Do with My Dinges”
4. A Dinges Skills Competition with practical test to apply toppings to our waffles.

To participate, reply to our Facebook* event invite. Ah oui! Registration is open **for up to 5 entries for the Miss Election, and 5 entries for the Mister Election.  Submit by Monday, August 23rd at 4pm. The winners get a Belgian Wafel Passport that's valid until August 23rd, 2011. Hell yeah.

• Contest takes place at the truck on 52nd Street btw 3rd Ave & Lex
• 1pm: Mister Wafel competition
• 1:30pm Miss Wafel competition
• 2pm: Award ceremony and drawing of the BIG WAFFLE RAFFLE 1st & 2nd prize
